Preparing Homes for Carpet Installations

Most vendors provide buyers with the services of experts to install the carpet, which may or may not come with extra charges. Therefore, an important thing that consumers should do when getting new carpet is to ask the vendor if there are any charges for the installation. In addition, owners will also have to confirm the scope of the installation services, which may include removing and disposing of old carpet and padding, clearing the area, and the like. However, regardless of whoever installs the new carpet, people should make sure that they do their part in preparing their homes for the process.

The first thing that a homeowner should do before having new carpet installed is to make sure that it is the last thing to do in the room, after painting or installing the wallpaper. Next, the old carpet needs to be thoroughly vacuumed to get rid of all dust and other particles that have accumulated.

Once the old carpet and padding have been removed, you will need to vacuum the floor thoroughly to remove all dirt. You should also inspect the carpet for its colour, texture, and style, once it is rolled out. In addition, make sure that the new carpet is stretched properly to avoid having wrinkles and ripples in it. In case the new carpet prevents doors from opening, you will need to have it trimmed and re-hung. Then, open doors and windows and turn on your exhaust fans and keep the room ventilated for 48 to 72 hours or until the smell of the new carpet disappears.
