How to Get Rid of Shed Pet Hair

Pets are usually treated as family members. Rather than letting them stay outside, their human owners let them roam within their homes. While the pets enjoy the warmth and comfort of the house, their owners may have headaches cleaning up the hair that their furry companions shed on the carpet and furniture. Vacuuming carpets and furniture regularly helps get rid of pet hair, but this may not be enough. Here are some tips on how to clean pet hair that stubbornly clings to surfaces:

First, put on a rubber glove, and wet it with water. After shaking off the excess water, run the glove over the surfaces with pet hair. The water attracts and holds hair. Using this method also makes it easier for you to get into hard-to-reach areas. In lieu of rubber gloves, you can use a dampened sponge.

You can also use a pet hair roller, which is available in pet supply stores. This is a small handheld roller that comes with a supply of special sticky paper. Place the paper on the roller with the glue side up, and run it over the dirty surfaces. Hair and debris sticks to the paper at each pass.

To remove pet hair that sticks to carpets with thick or fluffy fibres, you can use a rubber broom. The broom's bristles are charged with static electricity which attracts hair. Another method is to lightly spray a solution of water, liquid fabric softener, and baking soda onto a sponge mop. Move the mop across the entire length of the carpet. You will see that pet hair will clump up on the mop or on the carpet. Finally, vacuum the clumps away.
