Dealing with a Stained Hotel Room Carpet
When staying in a hotel room, we should be considerate of the housekeeping staff and care for the room like we would care for our own home. However, minor accidents cannot be avoided sometimes, such as spilling coffee, or worse - red wine on the carpet. Fortunately, you can create a potent homemade stain remover from ingredients that you can ask from your hotel kitchen (or buy at the closest grocery store). All you will need is a little water with a half cup of salt, half cup of baking soda, and several drops of vinegar. Simply mix all these substances together to make a paste and apply it on the stain. When it has dried off, remove with a tooth brush. Be careful not to scrub too roughly as you might do more harm than good. If the stain is gone but it still leaves an unpleasant smell (such as pet urine or vomit), just pour rubbing alcohol on the area.
If your child has dropped his chewing gum on the hotel room carpet, this requires another kind of treatment. Use a blow dryer (which most hotel rooms provide) and heat the gum until it has softened. Lift the gum off the floor by using a plastic sheet or plastic bag. If there are still bits of it left on the carpet, remove these leftover parts with soapy water and a toothbrush. Rinse with a little warm water and let it dry.
If nothing seems to work, be courteous and leave a note for the hotel housekeeper. Apologise for the carpet mishap and explain what caused the stain so they can determine the best type of cleaning product to use.
With this considerate gesture, you will be gaining the appreciation of the staff, which is especially helpful if you intend to keep coming back to their hotel.
